Day One!

We woke to the first day of our new life together and excited to get on our way to Kauai. We did not really know how long security would take at the airport, so we rushed to get ready and shoved all of our stuff into our two checked and two carry on bags. At the airport we were presented with two surprises. First, we got upgraded to first class for our flight from LAX to Kauai which we were so thankful for and second, Melissa and I forgot to check her pocket book and TSA found a large bottle of perfume. They were nice enough to give us the option to head back to the ticket booth and have it added to one of our checked bags, but unfortunately we checked into a different terminal than the one we actually flew out of and so they confiscated it. We then sat in the airport for an hour and a half waiting for our flight which incidentally was only 26 minutes from San Diego to Los Angeles. We apparently fail at flying domestically. LOL! On the short flight I gave Melissa some tips to improving her thumb war abilities.

After a short layover in Los Angeles we flew to Kauai where we were met by a warm humid day. We got our bags and our rental car, a nice new shiny Camaro convertible, and started our drive up the coast to our hotel. We stopped along the way and got some BBQ from Chicken in A Barrel, which was delicious and we highly recommend. After getting settled into our suite we went to the local market for groceries so that we don’t eat out the entire week. It was raining while we drove to the hotel but it had stopped by the time we headed out to the market, so we left the convertible roof down. When we came out it was raining and the inside of the car was soaked. We learned quickly that the weather can change on a dime.

I leave you with a picture of our first sunrise in Kauai. You probably won’t hear from us for another week or two. Aloha!
